That Morning Coffee

and a red airplane

Hello. My name is Khalid D. Aziz and I’d like to welcome you to That Morning Coffee.

Who I Am & What I Do

I’m an EFL teacher. I started working as a teacher in 2008 at an institute in Yemen. Then I worked at a university and a language center. Currently, I’m working at Exceed Language Center, the leading English language teaching center in Yemen. Beside my job as a teacher, I am also a translator, a graphics designer, and a web developer. Some of my designs can be found on And in my free time, I like to write.

How It All Started

In college, I majored in linguistics and since my first week there, people have told me, “So, you’re gonna be a teacher, huh?” Whenever someone said that, I scoffed and said, “No way!” Ironically enough, I was offered a job at an institute when I was a sophomore, and I accepted it. I soon realized that a good teacher is not someone who has broad knowledge of the language and its aspects, but also someone who is skilled at operating well and creatively in the classroom and has a great understanding of the profession. Ever since then, I’ve been paying great amount of attention to update my knowledge base so that I can bring to my teaching the best practice. I attended workshops, read books and journals about teaching, and learned from my colleagues. And now I am here to share what I’ve learned so far with you.

About the Blog’s Name

A friend of mine once brought me a packet of Turkish coffee. I don’t know what made it so special, but when I first tasted it, I thought to myself, “So this is what real coffee tastes like.” I finished the entire 500 gm. packet in less than two weeks. For some reason, the first cup I made was the most delicious. It was the best coffee I’d ever had. And so, to remind myself of that delightful morning with my first cup of Turkish coffee, I named the blog That Morning Coffee.

As for that tag line “and a red airplane,” it came to me later when I was designing the blog’s header. It just fit.
